CULTIVATING A LIFESTYLE OF GRATITUDE

In a culture marked by entitlement, consumerism, and pervasive anxiety, genuine gratitude is all too often reduced to a seasonal sentiment, a positive attitude, or a superficial self-help technique. Yet Scripture calls the people of God to something far deeper: a steadfast response of faith and worship directed toward our sovereign, holy, faithful, and gracious God, rather than a mere emotional reaction to favorable circumstances.

This November, as we approach the holiday season, we invite you to join us for a three-week spiritual training series titled “Cultivating a Lifestyle of Gratitude.” Grounded firmly in the truth of Scripture, this series is anchored in the unchanging character of the triune God and the unmerited grace of Christ’s gospel … through which we receive forgiveness, reconciliation, acceptance and eternal life, along with the indwelling, empowering presence of God’s Holy Spirit in our daily walk.

What We Will Explore?

Together over these three weeks, we will examine:

Why biblical thanksgiving begins not with our shifting, temporal circumstances, but with who God is and the eternal redemption He has accomplished for us in Jesus Christ.

How believers can faithfully and joyfully obey the call to give thanks in all circumstances, not by calling some evil good, denying grief, or pretending suffering is insignificant, but by resting securely in God’s sovereign providence and redemptive purposes.

How true gratitude transforms our daily worship, sanctifies our speech, enriches our relationships, guides our financial stewardship, and fuels a bold, loving witness for Jesus Christ in a grumbling, crumbling world.

The Goals

By the conclusion of this study, our hope and prayer is that each of us will be equipped to:

Define a robust, biblical understanding of thanksgiving that is grounded in the gospel and distinct from secular practices and philosophies.

Identify God’s holy attributes, faithfulness, and scriptural promises as the inexhaustible fuel for a thankful heart.

Walk through seasons of sorrow and affliction by uniting honest biblical grief with confident gratitude, trusting God’s providential care through prayer, the Word, and quality, meaningful, Christian fellowship.

Develop concrete habits of giving thanks that overflow through God’s Holy Spirit in verbal expressions of praise, gracious speech, generous stewardship, and joyful service to the Lord, His church, and fellow believers.

Biblical gratitude is an act of bible-centered, Christ-honoring worship! It recognizes that God is our sovereign Creator, Sustainer, and Provider! Apart from His grace, we deserve nothing from His hand due to our sin, yet in Jesus Christ, we have received unmerited favor (grace), complete forgiveness, redemption, reconciliation, total acceptance, and life eternal that can never be revoked.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget none of His benefits.

Psalm 103:1-2

As together we embark on this three-week journey, I’m inviting you to join us in seeking the Lord, allowing His Word to both renew and transform our minds / hearts / lives by the empowering presence of His Holy Spirit. I’m praying, even now, that we grow together as a people, deeply rooted in the biblical concepts of gratitude and thanksgiving. May our gratefulness freely and liberally overflow into authentic, sacrificial generosity, joyful ministry / service, and a vibrant, loving witness of Christ Jesus to an ever-watching world.

Please plan on coming every Sunday, expecting the transformation of one’s mind and heart as we allow the Lord to cultivate a lifestyle of gratitude within each of us!
