II Peter 1:19-21 declares … “So we (as followers of Jesus Christ / believers) have the prophetic Word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. But know this first of all (as an order of importance), that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved (carried, impelled, driven) by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.”

PLEASE NOTE THIS SIGNIFICANT TRUTH:

What a blessing! The Lord employed His Holy Spirit to inspire some of His faithful servants to write down what God was teaching and revealing in their day, so His WORD could / would be passed on to successive generations, like us, all the way forward into 2026!

One may ask, “How did all this occur?”

Hebrews 1:1-2 provides the perfect answer to your inquiry … even for us in this generation and every generation to come.

“God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.”

Who spoke? How did He speak? How is He speaking, even today?

Our Lord God is not somehow limited to revealing Himself in any one particular manner. Sometimes He spoke directly (see Genesis 12:7; 16:7; Exodus 3:2) to individuals. At other times He spoke in a different form, revealing His truths to His prophets through visions and dreams (see Isaiah 1:1; Ezekiel 1:1; Daniel 2:1, 19; Acts 10:10: Revelation 1:10). He once even decided to use a talking donkey (Numbers 22:28)! The Lord’s will was also revealed to His first disciples through the casting of lots (see Acts 1:23-26), much as He did through the Urim and Thummim to Israel (see Numbers 27:21).

Nonetheless, most importantly, God spoke through His Son, Jesus Christ, who effectively revealed the nature of the one true God to humanity. (see John 1:14)

Hebrews 1:3 clearly and boldly states this Truth, “And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power.”

Christ is uniquely qualified to speak for God because, as the apostle John describes Him in John 1:1-2, 14, 17, He is certainly God! Jesus as the “Word” (Greek – Logos, from John 1:14) is the computation of divine expression for everyone! He is the Spokesman of God, communicating to humanity, and even more specifically and directly to His people (those who believe and are called by His name). This allows us know the will of God, and unfolds the path to live in a genuine relationship with Him!

From God’s perspective, every word He speaks, or inspires one to understand, is absolutely 100% true! Nothing else is possible or probable if it’s from the Lord. This concept is reinforced by Psalm 119:160: “The sum of Your Word is truth, and every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting” and then from the prayer of Christ Jesus Himself in John 17:17: “Sanctify them in the truth; Your Word is truth.” See, the Lord God considers the Word His promise and guarantee that we receive only the very best / perfect instruction and information from Him and about Him! In fact, He would not be God at all if He spoke anything other than the Truth which is totally His Truth (Numbers 23:19; Titus 1:2; Hebrews 6:18).

Consequently, that brings us to our word for this month, “INSPIRATION” … as the Apostle Paul wrote to his “son” in the faith, Pastor Timothy.

“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”

2 Timothy 3:16

The phrase, “inspired by God” literally, in the New Testament Greek text, means “God-breathed.” Scripture, then, is the direct product of God’s mind, nature and very being! The words “all Scripture” can also be rendered to mean “every text,” “the whole scripture,” or “all the writings,” meaning that the Lord actually revealed spiritually exactly what He wanted for His followers to know and understand! It was INSPIRIED by Him and inscribed by His servants under the control of The ALMIGHTY! In reality, nothing can compare and nothing should be considered as valuable as God’s provision for those He loves, calls, redeems and are Holy Spirit filled!

Therefore, my always prayer… for all of us, is, “May the Word of God richly dwell within you!” – From Colossians 3:16. Lord, let us understand, embrace, and faithfully use this incomparable gift / blessing!

WHY

This brief article examines the word “WHY” as it is used in 3 very notable, specific passages. One from our Old Testament and two from the New Testament Scriptures. While the word, “WHY” is generally used by humans to question, to protest, or even to demand explanations, in this article, we will consider its use from the Lord as He addresses specific individuals.

God questions Cain in Genesis 4:6 . . . “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?” Here, in one of the Bible’s earliest narratives, God Himself poses two questions for a man to answer … interrogating Cain about his current emotional state and his spiritual condition. Initially, most of would defend him due to the fact that the Lord, “had no regard” for his offering (See Genesis 4:5). However, these questions are penetrating, perhaps even pastoral, inviting some much-needed reflection and self-evaluation / examination! This divine “WHY” establishes what undoubtedly was intended to be bidirectional dialogue as the Lord offered both uplifting spiritual direction and a path to healing.

“If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.”

Genesis 4:7

How blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways. When you shall eat of the fruit of your hands, you will be happy and it will be well with you.

Psalm 128:1-2

As we all know, Cain failed to heed the Lord’s instruction and proceeded down his own path of destruction, committing the first intentional homicide (aka 1^st degree murder / felony) in human history!

At the empty tomb of Christ, when the women arrive with certain spices to complete the proper burial process for Christ’s body, they encounter 2 of the Lord’s angels who asked, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?” (See Luke 24:1-5). Here, once again, “WHY” comes from the heavenly realm, but here it clearly challenges typical human understanding! The process of death, burial, and mourning is / was the norm. However, the women are seeking to find the body of Jesus Christ in a place where He cannot be found! The resurrection of Jesus Christ completely shattered their human expectations. The angels’ question openly exposes the severe breach between human expectations / reasoning and divine purposes (reality according to God’s perspective). Remember, the Lord had plainly declared His own future suffering, execution / death and resurrection! (Study Matthew 12:40, 16:21, 17:22-23, 20:18-19; Mark 8:31, 9:31, 10:33-34; Luke 9:22, 18:31-33; John 2:19-22, John 10:17-18) This is a gentle rebuke, not a casting of judgment upon their lack of faith or understanding, but yet, a profound, theological eternal truth! Herein lies an absolutely, irreversible, life-changing moment for these ladies, but also for every human being!

On the Damascus road, the risen Christ Jesus continues with the “WHY” questioning of human beings. Saul, breathing threats and murder against the Lord’s followers (aka “the Way” – See Acts 9:1-2), is shocked by a flashing light from heaven and falls to the ground while hearing a distinct voice: “Saul, Saul, WHY are you persecuting me?” (see Acts 9:4). In this biblical text, the “WHY” functions as a direct confrontation, demanding that Saul give an account for his own actions / activities! Apparently, this question from heaven to earth transforms the persecutor into the faithful apostle Paul. His anger and violence transformed into the mission … The Great Commission of Matthew 28:19-20! Please note, this “WHY,” offered simultaneously, is an accusation coupled with a life-changing, purpose-driven invitation.

These three passages, spanning from Genesis to the Gospel account of Luke, and the book of Acts (which records the early activities of God’s Holy Spirit working in and through Christ followers), reveal something essential about New Testament, biblically-based faith! “WHY”-– is actually the Lord God challenging us, probing our hearts, challenging our assumptions, and confronting our sins. This small word is effectively used where human understandings or misunderstandings collide with divine reality — exactly where our comfortable human certainties break down, allowing incredible changes to become possible. Whenever the Lord asks you “WHY,” He is standing ready to work in ways we can’t even grasp or begin to imagine with in the limited realm of our frailed human thinking!

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

Isaiah 55:9

So one asks, “WHY” Mission Trip 2026? Well, thanks for asking (demanding an explanation)! The answer is actually pretty simple. We are all called to be Christ’s witnesses.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”

Acts 1:8

Therefore, our Primary Mission Trip 2026 objective is introducing children and young adults (youth students) to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

“This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men (human beings) to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

I Timothy 2:3-4

As a secondary purpose, we hope to experience the dynamic power of youth students, young adults and adults serving the Lord in unity as one cohesive team.

“Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, so that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us to the glory of God.“

ADVENT/CHRISTMAS 2025 – CHOICES

As we enter this Advent season, I find myself reflecting on a simple yet profound truth: Christmas doesn’t just happen — we choose how we will celebrate it. The choices each of us make in these upcoming weeks will reveal exactly what one truly treasures. As a child growing up, even though raised in a faithful Christian home, I never really thought about anything other than the presents I’d receive. Certainly, there was always the shared understanding of Christ’s birth, but it seems we always chose the exact same patterns year after year.

I often wonder if you’ve also felt the strange, but obvious tension that builds starting about Thanksgiving and invading December. The world around us accelerates into a frenzy of activity: shopping lists grow longer, social calendars fill to overflowing, decorations seem to demand serious attention, and everywhere we may turn, someone is trying to sell a neat experience, a distinct product, or some special feeling(s).

Meanwhile, at the heart of it all, a quiet voice whispers the most revolutionary announcement in human history: “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” (See John 1:14)

The question before each of us is not whether we will be busy this Christmas season — we will be! However, the question that should be asked is: What will all our busyness actually mean or serve?

For sure, I’m not suggesting that we abandon all our celebrations or family traditions. There is most likely nothing inherently wrong with festive meals, thoughtful gifts, or beautifully decorated homes. But I am asking us to examine our hearts and even our motives this Christmas season.

When we crawl into bed, most likely exhausted on the night of December 25, will we have encountered Christ our Lord, or merely survived another holiday? Will we have worshiped the Savior, or simply participated in cultural rituals that attempt to bear His Holy Name?

Consider how easily our focus shifts. We plan elaborate meals but neglect the very Bread of Life. We stress over finding the perfect gifts while forgetting that God gave us the best Gift ever given, never before offered, or even deserved! Some of our homes are filled with guests, friends, family and glitter, but little room left for the One whose visit to earth began by being laid in a very humble feed trough.

We sing carols about His birth but rarely pause to marvel at this staggering reality: the Creator of the entire universe entered His creation as an infant. The One who declared light to be light came as the true light to shine in a world of darkness! (See Genesis 1:3, Isaiah 9:2, John 1:4, 9)

This Christmas, each and every one of us will make choices – perhaps even deliberate, counter-cultural choices. As believers, will we choose to create space for silence and reflection in a season that demands noise and activity? We must choose to prioritize worship and spiritual gatherings — even when family obligations, traditions, and travel plans actively compete for our time. Will believers choose to serve others as Christ did (See Mark 10:45), actively remembering the example of Jesus Himself? Will we choose to engage in conversation about the Lord’s incarnation, not just enthusiastically sharing about our special holiday plans?

These choices may, most likely will, cost us something. They may even mean disappointing others’ expectations. It may require us to say “no” to good things in order to say “yes” to better things. Perhaps we will be judged as less festive by our world’s standards, or unenthusiastic about Christmas trees, decorations, and lights or the season’s overplayed pop songs.

Here is what I know: the Messiah Who came to us through a miraculous, one-of-a-kind birth still shows up for us today—in His Word, through the presence of His Holy Spirit, in the gatherings and fellowship of His people, and in quieter moments of reflection and meditation when we turn our hearts, thoughts, and activities toward Him. He is not forcing us to draw near – no, He is simply offering Himself as the primary focus! After all, it is CHRISTMAS, and He is undoubtedly worthy of our wholehearted, undistracted devotion and sacrificial praise.

Therefore, my fellow, faithful servants of Jesus Christ, make some intentional choices! Choose Christ over the crazy chaos. Choose worship over senseless worry. Choose the eternal over the temporal. Choose to celebrate the first coming of our Savior and King in the sincere reverence of Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love that has been so graciously and lavishly poured out upon us! (See Ephesians 1:7-8)

The world will have its Christmas. Let us have ours — centered on the One who was, and is, and is to come!

ABOMINATION

This biblical word, which occurs at least 170 times in the scriptures, is not familiar to many New Testament believers, primarily because it is mainly associated with the event known as “the abomination of desolation” during the last days tribulation period (Daniel 11:31, Matthew 24:15, Mark 13:14). However, it has substantial and significant use for those who desire to more fully understand the very nature of our God and our Savior, Christ Jesus.

The dictionary definition of “abomination,” which is typically a noun, reads, “something that causes disgust or hatred,” and was common terminology during the 1800s. Biblically speaking, “abomination” is a powerful term, generally referring to something that is absolutely and unequivocally detestable, and / or profoundly contrary to God’s Holiness. This encompasses willfully ignoring His instructions, participating in idolatry, improper worship, acts of immorality, unethical behavior, and dishonesty. Spiritually and fundamentally “abomination” refers to any practice or attitude that distances individuals from God’s desired purposes and plans, which includes both His Truth and His Love, accompanied by His Holiness, Righteousness and Justice.

There are six things which the Lord hates, yes, seven which are an abomination (Hebrew – ‎tow`ebah; repulsive, even dangerous and destructive, abhorrent) to Him: 1) haughty eyes, 2) a lying tongue, 3) and hands that shed innocent blood, 4) a heart that devises wicked plans, 5) feet that run rapidly to evil, 6) a false witness who utters lies, 7) and one who spreads strife among brothers.

Proverbs 6:16-19

Be assured, all 7 fall into the same category of being an “abomination” to our Lord, and if that’s the case exactly where do we stand?

HAUGHTY EYES – displaying a proud look, being unkind and irreverent toward others! See Psalm 101:5, Proverbs 21:4, 30:13

A LYING TONGUE – speaking falsehood, which implies a wrong motive. Vanity, improper ambition, and even cowardice serve as the generators and patrons of lies. A pure heart has no motive for falsehood; however, sadly, there exist social pressures that work to loosen the mind and tongue… such as expectations, and the somewhat confused human need for acceptance and approval!

See Psalm 31:18, 120:2, Proverbs 12:22, Ephesians 4:25

HANDS THAT SHED INNOCENT BLOOD – heartless cruelty. A lack of understanding for God’s created creatures … inflicting needless pain, incivility, and death upon any human, as well as other life forms!

See Isaiah 1:15, 59:7, Proverbs 28:17, Exodus 20:13

A HEART THAT DEVISES WICKED PLANS – this is vicious scheming. This is birthed from pagan concepts and wicked thoughts / imaginations. These individuals are continuously inventing some form of evil behavior, usually with the intent of damaging others, for satisfying some demented dream, or to fulfill some delusional pleasures! See Genesis 6:5, Proverbs 24:2

FEET THAT RUN RAPIDLY TO EVIL – an eagerness to participate in mischievous sinful / wicked activities / behavior. These have an unrestrained passion / vigilance and a lust to participate in questionable, improper and / or immoral activities.

See Proverbs 1:15-16, Isaiah 59:7, Romans 3:10-18

A FALSE WITNESS WHO UTTERS LIES – a slanderer. Socially attempting to destroy another’s reputation, credibility, or successful good / positive achievements. This ungodly behavior may be motivated by jealousy, a lack of purpose or acceptance, poor training, and / or a desire for some type of social recognition!

See Proverbs 12:17-18, 19:5, 19:9, 21:28, Matthew 15:19

ONE WHO SPREADS STRIFE (sows discord) AMONG BROTHERS – here lies wicked, evil intentions. Someone who intentionally works to damage, disrupt, destroy, and / or sever relationships, friendships, and / or even quality organizations (like Christ’s True / Believing Church)!

See Proverbs 6:14-15, 16:28, 22:10, 26:20, 2 Timothy 2:23, James 3:6, 14-16

All of these things are an “abomination” to God, who desires exactly the opposite for His people . . . wanting harmony, peace, unity, love and truth to prevail among those of the kingdom even while stationed in this world. The moral hideousness of the world is obvious where these seven evils abound. However, the righteousness and holiness of our Lord clearly emerges when one considers His displeasure / hatred for these things which are 100% foreign to the nature and character of the ONE! TRUE! LIVING GOD!

While we live in a world set on “abomination,” it is not our responsibility to rid the world of these evils except through the spreading of the Gospel. Therefore, we should individually and corporately, as Christ’s Church body, consider these behaviors totally, unquestionably, and absolutely reprehensible – never to be found or tolerated among us!

“For the devious are an abomination to the Lord; But He is intimate with the upright. The curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked, but He blesses the dwelling of the righteous.”

Proverbs 3:32-33

Meditate on His Word, day and night and you’ll find an unbelievable escape and freedom from the mindset of those who are perishing. (see 1 Corinthians 1:18-19)

How many of you remember turning 40? Yes, I know many of you haven’t reached that milestone in life yet, but many of us are way past that – like me! I clearly remember certain things about that event, two of which I still remember distinctly. First, my life was most likely at least half over, and I was asking the question, “What have I accomplished … how many lives had been positively spiritually impacted by the ministry our Lord had entrusted to my care? Second, West Oaks Fellowship, which was then called Grace Church (Grace Ministries & Fellowship), was meeting in the facility we previously owned on Schiller Road (purchased from the Missouri Synod Lutheran Diocese). At that point in our history, we were primarily a white congregation (Brother Leroy, an exception) and had not yet embraced our current purpose of being a diversified church made of many cultures and heritages, that actually looks (ethnically speaking) like our neighborhood and our Lord’s heaven.

On June 22, 2025, our church will celebrate her 40th Anniversary, preceded by our formerly annual private anniversary picnic celebration (lots of fun for everyone from the youngest to the oldest) at Cinco Ranch Water Park on Thursday evening, June 19th, from 6-9 pm.

I sincerely hope you will make whatever arrangements are necessary so you and yours can fully participate in both of these special occasions / events!

40 is a pretty significant number in the Scriptures. This number appears over 150 times in both the New and Old Testament. You may recall some of its prominent uses … It rained for 40 days and 40 nights in the days of the flood, Christ Jesus was in the wilderness fasting (where He was tempted by Satan) for 40 days and 40 nights. Moses, after going up Mt. Sinai, received the 10 Commandments during a 40 day and 40-night timeframe. Israel’s designated spies searched the promised land for 40 days, Goliath taunted Israel for 40 days, God gave Nineveh 40 days to repent, and Christ ascended to heaven 40 days after His resurrection. In addition, the nation of Israel wandered 40 years in the wilderness, Eli, Deborah, and Gideon judged for 40 years, then King Saul, King David, King Solomon, and King Joash all reigned over the nation for 40 years. In the Bible, 40 years is also designated as the period of one generation.

The number 40, biblically speaking, is in many significant events, some trial and testing, some transformation – like Moses’ encounter with the burning bush or receiving God’s direct commandments for the governing of His people. Even deliverance and protection are demonstrated as Noah and his family experienced within the sanctuary of the God-designed ark, while the earth was experiencing great upheavals!

Thus He blotted out every living thing that was upon the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky, and they were blotted out from the earth; and only Noah was left, together with those that were with him in the ark.

— Genesis 7:23

My 40-year tenure as the founding, and now Lead Pastor / Elder at WOF, has been filled with much testing, many trials, at times great tiring / exhausting difficulties, along with enumerable blessings, delightful victories, spiritual liberations, and immeasurable redemptive triumphs! For all, not just the good, I am forever, deeply grateful, and honored for the privilege of serving my Lord, Jesus Christ, and each of you as His people. These are truly my continuous thoughts …

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, in view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now. For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. For it is only right for me to feel this way about you all, because I have you in my heart, since both in my imprisonment (this hasn’t happened to me yet, even though I was prepared for it during COVID) and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers of grace with me.

During this past 40 years, I only considered resigning and just walking away once. Then, we were at our Schiller Road location (just almost due south of our current facility). I was basically worn out and needed some ministerial / pastoral help to assist me with the routine task of teaching, preaching and leading the body. I had previously helped a pastor friend of mine recover form a downfall in his ministry and assisted in restoring his family. He was a gifted teacher, as well as an accomplished musician, and I desired to bring him in as a part time associate to help out. (Back then we met on Sunday AM, PM, Wednesday PM and had gatherings on Friday evenings along with other special events.) One Sunday morning I presented the idea to the church and was actually surprised by the resistance. I decided to move on with the service because I didn’t want to quench or potentially destroy the working of God’s Holy Spirit during that day’s worship or teaching. I, in my heart, was determined to resign at the end of the service. A very good friend of mine, who knew me very well and ran our sound, spiritually discerned exactly what was about to happen, and warned a couple of our faithful leaders what was about to occur. Then, as the service was ending, those leaders wanted to stop everything and readdress the issue … then, amazingly things moved in a completely different direction – without anyone else being informed of my intention in that moment! I believe the Lord moved powerfully to rescued me from myself!

There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.

Just as you do not know the path of the wind and how bones are formed in the womb of the pregnant woman, so you do not know the activity of God who makes all things.

— Ecclesiastes 11:5

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!

— Romans 11:33

I have lost a lot of treasured friends (some in death, through relocation, and others just changing) over the past 40 years, and experienced many people leaving WOF simply because of me. I have also been trampled upon by individuals whom I highly respected as godly individuals and would have never believed they could / would act in such a manner. Yes, those were certainly tremendously painful, plunging deep in my heart and soul. Nonetheless, I’ve gained many, high-quality, valuable, Christ-centered relationships as West Oaks Fellowship continues it mission of “Sharing / Speaking The Truth In Love.” I still firmly and unrelentingly believe, and am fully committed, to the Lord’s calling of transforming lives through truth and love!

And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. As I grow older, almost 71 now, I fully recognize that my age at some point may hinder my ability to be an effective leader and teacher of God’s Word / Truth. When that time arrives, while it will be very difficult for me, I will remove myself for the benefit of the ministry. However, until that time comes, please continue steadfast in your prayers for WOF, Pastor Jacob — as he accepts more and more responsibility for the ministry, for my bride, Brenda, as she faithfully supports me and all of our on-going ministries, and me … to be strong in mind and body, and an effective communicator of our Lord’s Truth and trainer of God’s people.

Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.

GOVERNMENT (PLUS- VOTING OPPORTUNITY IN THE USA)

Biblically speaking, we find several forms of government all primarily emerging or developing from what I would refer to historically as nomadic. While there is much evidence of early monarchies like Melchizedek, King of Salem (Genesis 14:18, Hebrews 7:1-2) and the Pharaohs of Egypt (which mostly followed the principals of heredity) (Genesis, Exodus, Deuteronomy), most humans lived and survived in what I would classify as tribal units with some form of chieftains as their leaders to uphold laws and regulations.

Abram / Abraham is an excellent example, being literally an Arab, which originally referred to a semitic group of people (all descendants of Abraham) who lived in nomadic people groups.

For the Hebrew people, their governments varied significantly during different periods of time throughout their existence / history: (1) the nomadic period, from the Exodus to the entrance into Palestine; (2) the period of transition from nomadic to civil life military / spiritual leaders and judges; (3) the monarchy; (4) the period of subjection to other nations such as the Assyrians, Babylonians, Medio Persians; (5) the period from Ezra to the Greeks; (6) Greek rule; (7) Roman rule; and then most recently, since 1948, (8) a parliamentarian democracy.

God’s purpose for government is multifaceted: (1) regulate a sinful, rebellious society by establishing law and order for a people group; (2) to promote safety, peace, well-being, and justice for the good of individuals and nations (Romans 13:4); (3) for His purposes and glory.

However, just like churches, government is made up of human beings, some bad / evil / corrupt and some good, desiring to lead and govern in a proper and righteous manner. The intent of government, according to Romans 13:4 was never intended for the good or prosperity of those engaged in the governing, but instead for the progress and benefit of the governed . . . “for it is a minister of God to you for good.”

That was the philosophy of the majority of our founding fathers and why politician Daniel Webster, in a speech to the Senate in 1830 said, “It is, Sir, the people’s Constitution, the people’s Government, made for the people, made by the people, and answerable to the people!” And, as you most likely know, President Abraham Lincoln (republican) modified this statement along with one borrowed from Preacher Theodore Parker, in his famous Gettysburg address declaring “that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

THAT’S EXACTLY WHY CHRISTIANS SHOULD VOTE! In addition, we should only vote our godly, biblically-based values as believers, if we actually hope for God’s blessing and protection to be upon our nation! If you can’t vote the truth and things of your faith in Christ and the Truth of His Word, then don’t vote.

While I totally agree, there is no perfect candidate, for president or any other office, nor is there a perfect political party platform (which is why I’m a constitutional independent – not voting for a person, or culture, but instead for a position – actual held belief), we should vote to uphold the concept of, “a nation, under God . . . government of the people, by the people, for the people” in hope and prayer that it “shall not perish from the earth” (while highly unlikely) until CHRIST JESUS IS RULING and REIGNING AS KING!

Then, and only then, each of us and our world will experience a perfect leader who will organize and direct a perfect government!

Just in case you were wondering, what is a perfect government? There’s only one . . . A benevolent, righteous theocracy where the perfect will of the perfect leader is established and upheld 24/7. This removes the unrighteousness of humanity!

And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses. From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. THE HAMAS (RELIGIOUS/POLITICAL) CULT

How is it that Hamas protesters (hiding under the concept of being pro-Palestine), some now rioters, can openly / publicly chant, “From the river to the sea,” “death to Israel / death to America,” “we are Hamas” and / or “intifada” and at the same time, in the same breath, accuse the IDF (Israeli Defense Force) of genocide? Those very mantras promote, and are undoubtedly, inexplicably, declaring the complete elimination / annihilation of an entire people group from the face of the earth! That, in essence, ties in perfectly with the ideology of Hitler and his Third Reich (within its first 6 years issued 400 legal restrictions against Jews with them ultimately becoming “Enemies of the State” – nationalizing their businesses, confiscating their assets / property, encampment, and promoting their total elimination) which exalts the value of one people group (Aryans) as superior to all others (instigating Aryanization and the “popular anger” movement within Germany), while discounting and eradicating the value of one group to being useless (Jews), therefore not even worthy of life itself (The Holocaust)!

As believers in Christ Jesus, we recognize the value of human life, holding, that according to the scriptures, all humans are created in the image and likeness of the Creator (see Genesis 1:27) and that life is viewed as precious (see Psalm 139:13-16)! Job 12:10 asks, “In whose hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind?”

Humanity is not some cosmic accident, as many who desire to live unaccountable lives promote and encourage others to believe, but instead is the product of a carefully executed creation by a perfect, holy, sovereign, and eternal superior being … God. Human dignity is therefore derived directly from God Himself, with individuals being finite, dependent creatures who have been assigned a high value / worth by their own Creator (enough value for Christ Jesus to suffer in accordance with the consequences of humanity’s sin and offer then full and complete restoration – see John 3:16-17).

The current pro-Hamas / anti-Israel students and professional demonstrators / students and non-student imported protestors are now using the phrase “Free Gaza / Free Palestine.” (I guess they all must have skipped out on their modern-day history classes.) In the January 2006 Palestinian legislative election, Hamas defeated the ruling Fatah (political party) by winning 74 of 132 seats. Since that time, there have been no (yes, “zero”) free elections in the Hamas-controlled Gaza. Then in 2007, a presidential decree was issued abolishing all legislative seats that were not in agreement with Hamas’ leadership / ideology. While the western media reports that 70-72% of the Palestinians currently support the Hamas regime, there is no credible evidence to document that figure and no consideration of any potential/possible persecution “fear factor” incorporated within that questionable statistic.

Do the current American pro-Hamas protestors even understand the core values of Hamas? If they did, their public outcries would most likely be drawn back in deep silence. Is anyone even asking, “What’s the role of women within the framework of the Hamas religious / political cult society?”

Women make up approximately 50% of the population in Gaza, but have very limited influence, and their basic individual rights are systematically denied. The women’s importance is that they, “manufacture men (Hamas warriors), and play a great role educating and guiding the (new) generation.” There remains widespread discrimination, contrary to Hamas’s public statements, along with extremely limited employment opportunities, and virtually no pathways to financial independence. Female abuse is rampant, adultery laws are codified according to gender, divorcees must pay their husbands to get out of a marriage, but the men can divorce their wife cost-free for any reason, and in Hamas controlled Gaza, a woman’s testimony is only worth half (½) of a male’s. In addition, Hamas engages a “Modesty Police,” which is empowered to enforce a “Code Of Modesty” upon the women of Gaza, severely restricting basic freedoms of movement and expression. Hijah (Islamic head coverings) should be worn while in schools, at courthouses, and on beaches. This code also prohibits the riding of motorcycles, learning to drive without the presence of a man, using a male hairdresser, submitting an incest complaint, and / or even engaging in some sporting / athletic events. In 2013 a UNRWA (United Nations Relief And Works Agency For Palestine) Marathon was cancelled due to the Hamas “Code Of Modesty.”

Hamas’ ideology combines nationalism and the political Islamism of the Muslim Brotherhood. In terms of the religion, they are Salafist, which means they adhere to Islamic Sharia law and believe that a Palestinian state should be governed in that manner. However, within the framework of that religious system, Hamas attempts to achieve its political ambitions by combining social mobilization, political organization / negotiation, and the use of severe violence. Therefore, they should be considered a jihadist group given that it does not rule out violence as a political strategy to further or obtain its objective. It’s a religious cult whose “modus operandi” merits the use of extreme violence, in numerous /various forms, as means to accompany political bargaining. Therefore, it can and does, spiritually, morally, and ethically, justify carrying out grotesque terrorist actions against civilians (even slaughtering babies and raping children) and even a country’s military, such as the massacre launched on October 7, 2023 during the Re’im Music Festival in Israel.

It’s not difficult to see how genuine believers, true followers of Christ and the doctrines / theology of the New Testament find great conflict with any support for Hamas, its activities, and its ideology. While certainly a person can be / should be concerned with the loss of life of life caused by war … Hamas’ ongoing war with Israel, is no different. Don’t forget, war is all about destroying things and killing / disabling an enemy. However, current social media and some regular media sources are referring to Israel’s retaliatory actions as a disproportionate response and genocide. Undocumented sources claim 30,000+ have died in Gaza — about 18,000 is actually more accurate, and yes that’s a lot of individuals! However, Hamas doesn’t value human life as committed Christians do and even other cultures / societies — that’s why they are willing to use brain-washed children and women as human shields for their soldiers and military stronghold if that action achieves their objectives! Therefore, it is impossible to attack Hamas’ military without inflicting civilian casualties (as is the case in most armed conflicts). The real victims in Gaza are the civilians who are being used / sacrificed in a ludicrous / preposterous manner by their own “elected” government!

Remember, Cain of Genesis? He was a violent human being. Humanity is still violent… while at times historically, we see the decrease and increase of wars and violence … currently our world is in a season of escalated violence and war. Jesus Christ, while visiting earth, warned us concerning these days … “For nation (people group) will rise against nation (people group), and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.” (See Matthew 24:7-8, Mark 13:8, Luke 21:10-11) “Nation against nation, kingdom against kingdom” is simply an idiom for war in and around the world or perhaps even world war … a global conflict that is signaling the approaching end of this current age. The “birth pangs” will continue and, of course grow more frequent. Deception and division in both society and the church will increase, which we clearly see and are encountering, but our Lord Jesus spoke this to His disciples / followers as well, “See to it that no one misleads you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many. You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. (See Matthew 24:4-6)

What we are currently witnessing / experiencing on our college campuses, in the Middle East, with Ukraine and Russia, and even on our own borders, should not be unexpected, but anticipated. The consummation of the ages is coming and these type of issues and conflicts will certainly arise!

What then shall we do? How then should we live?

Encourage one another, don’t grow weary in doing good, stay connected to your church (too many are disconnected), and remember to pray for the peace of Jerusalem which will only be ratified when our Lord, Jesus Christ sits upon His throne, ruling and reigning in righteousness! (see 1 Thessalonians 5:11, 2 Thessalonians 3:13, Ephesians 2:10, Hebrews 10:24-25, Psalm 122:6, 1 Corinthians 15:24-25, Revelation 11:15)

FEAR

Here’s a non-biblical definition of fear: A strong, sometimes uncontrollable, unpleasant emotion, caused by actual or perceived danger and / or threat induced by something or someone.

Have you ever wondered why the word “fear” appears so many times in the Bible? In fact, there are over 500 references throughout the scriptures … some referring to fear as described above, others reminding us to “fear God,” and a few offering instruction for faithful believers, encouraging us to “fear not.”

The first biblical passage using “fear” is found in Genesis 9:2 in respect to the animals of God’s creation’s perspective on humanity, and the last is found in Revelation 19:5 concerning the Lord’s bond-servants offering Him praise. Needless to say, these two words don’t have the same meaning in their original language. The Revelation verse refers to “fear” as being in awe and reverent before the Lord, while in Genesis, the “fear” is that from the perspective of trembling, or being in terror as standing before a superior being / power.

Undoubtedly, it is right and good for us, as believers, to “fear” God by demonstrating genuine reverence, deep respect, and honor towards Him.

Some would argue that three types or categories of fear exist:

Rational Fear occurs where there is a real, imminent threat.
Primal Fear is defined as an innate fear which is somehow pre- programmed into our brains.
Irrational Fears are the ones that don’t make logical sense and may vary greatly from person to person.

Others come from a different, more descriptive perspective:

Fear of Failure and / or Success.
Fear of Rejection.
Fear of Change / Unknown (loving the status quo, even if change is needed).
Fear of Speaking (publicly).
Fear of Imperfection (or not being good enough / judged).
Fear of Vulnerability (being open, showing weaknesses).
Fear of Time (chronophobia – the passage of days, months, years).
Fear of Loneliness.

Biblically, fear can be good for a believer, or it can become tremendously destructive like the lyrics of a song we sing, “fear is a liar!” However, fear can serve as a motivation to follow the Lord, living righteously and humbly serving Him as one’s Lord. In addition, every individual, at some point in their life, must ask the questions, “What am I afraid of?” and “Are my fears, real or perceived, stopping me from achieving what the Lord is asking of me in this life?”

I know this will sound over-simplified to many, but biblically, there are actually only 2 fears in our world. (I know, “what about my fear of falling or fear of wasps or snakes?” … I’m not suggesting that they are not real)

THE SPIRIT OF FEAR

2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of timidity (fear / cowardness), but of power and love and discipline (sound / right judgement).

According to this verse, we as believers, have been supernaturally granted the exact opposite of timidity, fear, fearfulness, fright! I’ll never forget at Hurricane Harvey (6 years ago last Sunday), when I was trying to get back to our house in order to take care of Brenda and Wofetoo — I had no fear. Tommie Elpers drove through really high water (at least 4-6 feet deep in places on FM 1093 to drop me off near the back entrance to our subdivision. I jumped in a boat that a fellow resident was navigating and we tore down a 6 foot wood fence to get in. He dropped me off once we saw some dry ground and houses that weren’t flooded. However, that wasn’t our section! To get to our home, I still had to walk through chest-high water, and then once in our area, avoid all the underground drains. The Lord was with me, I was never afraid or fearful, I got home and then we were ultimately delivered to safety by another neighbor who had a military hummer that would run, with the now deeper water, in the cab. The young lady from across the street, who went out with us and another senior couple were all scared to death. Now, I’m not saying I had anything other than a confidence / trust that I was moving rightly and that the Lord was directing my path / every step. Did we suffer loss? Sure, a great one, almost everything in our home destroyed, plus all the damage to the house (as many of you remember).

Isaiah 41:10 “Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

THE FEAR OF THE LORD

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Fearing God leads to an abundant (blessed) life! It brings wisdom, it provides refuge, and it shows / fully demonstrates our reverence for / to God. This kind of fear is extremely healthy. Too often, God’s people forget that our Lord is omnipresent and omniscient. Fearing Him is to love Him and show forth our willingness to obey and submit under His leadership and direction (guidance) even in things / times / circumstances / situations we do not understand!

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil.

Brothers and sisters, here’s the bottom line …

Psalm 34:4 I sought the Lord, and He answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.

May this truth be alive in all Your people, Lord, and especially those of us that gather for worship and teaching at West Oaks Fellowship! Let us be fearless (“fear not” – from Isaiah 41:10 above) because we know, and are confident, that You are with us 24/7!

TELL IT LIKE IT IS

In 1969, Ralph Carmichael and Kurt Kaiser produced a folk musical / drama entitled, “Tell It Like It Is,” which was fairly well received in churches throughout America as they were struggling with the rise of the Jesus Movement among the youth. This youth production included the well-known Christian camp song, “Pass It On,” with the theme song, “Tell It Like Is” which boldly proclaimed a much-needed transparency in that day and time.

Let’s tell the truth about the world we live in,

Let’s ask about the God who put it here

Let’s tell the truth about our friends and neighbors

Let’s check the cause of all our hate and fear.

Let’s look at love and find out where it comes from

Let’s look at life and all that we hold dear

Let’s check it now before it quickly passes

Let’s use today before it disappears.

Let’s tell it like it is, Tell it like it is,

We’re tired of pretty words designed for youth.

Let’s tell it like it is, Tell it like it is,

Get down to where the “searcher” meets the truth.

If some demented, deluded (yes – delusional), scientist decided to sew 4 legs that have hooves on a fish, would that make the fish a horse? You’d say come on PF, that’s ridiculous! Nonetheless, that’s exactly what’s going on in our world. We have a society which is being influenced by certain cultural norms and pressures to actually believe that a fish can become a horse because of physical modifications coupled with its inner feelings. However, there is no Truth involved – or else, a horse is not a horse, and a fish is not a fish. It’s as stupid and as absurd as the old joke, when is a door not a door … when it’s ajar!

Truth is under serious assault / attack today and that onslaught is coming from many, many directions. Here’s a good contemporary example. A word, which is now common place today is transgender, yet in reality there is absolutely no such thing! The etymology of the word actually reveals this, perhaps stunningly! Trans comes from Latin meaning to cross over, and gender most likely is an Old Latin, Greek, and / or French word, genos, meaning species, or kind. Within the concept of this word’s original meaning lies the idea of clearly identifiable physical characteristics of a male or female. Each one human, but obviously and distinctively different.

In truth, within the framework of modern science, we know that God’s creation includes greater distinctions and differences than just the normal, usually identifiable, physical attributes of an individual. Within the exalted framework of God’s design for human beings, there is no way to cross over, even if one feels a certain way or eliminates certain identifiable physical traits … even sewing new ones on! “God made them male and female He made them” (A simple, but highly complex Truth from Genesis 1:27). A female can dress like a male, walk like a male, act like a male, and even modify her physical body to appear as a male, but she is still a she, biologically / anatomically … according to God’s purpose, and His sacred original design, all for HIS ultimate glory! NOT HUMANITY’S. The same is true for any male … all males, gay, straight, or in modern vernacular, trans. He is still a he, even if he wants to be a she, or on the inside has decided to feel like a she.

It’s interesting that medical science, even including current Covid research, where male deaths are 2.4 times higher than that of females, reveals that if only males are used in clinical studies, that a higher adverse reaction rate is always found among females. Why? Aren’t they both human? Obviously, there are too, too many distinctions to even start to discuss here, but absolute truth is essential for proper medical treatment … a female with prostate cancer or a male with cervical cancer! Really. Well now there is some true gender identity issues.

This is just one example of Faux Truth … like man-made pearls, they are simply fake. Lie after lie is being presented and promoted in our world from various sources to selfishly achieve their own agenda(s). A big lie (German: große Lüge) a propaganda technic used by Hitler … tell a big enough lie, tell it over and over, and the people will come to believe it. We can see how that worked out really well for him and the Germany people!

As God’s people, we must not be swept up and captured by / in the lies of our pagan, unbelieving culture. Instead, we must continually speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15) and walk / live in the same truth we speak. Please, never forget, discount, or abandon the words of our Lord, Jesus Christ, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” (John 14:6) “And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make (set) you free.” (John 8:32)

As believers, our lives are all about Truth – not some faux beliefs or faux religious system. Are we like those faux blinds hanging in your home windows, or are we authentic? If faux blinds dominate the market and are hanging in every house, before long, nobody will even know what real wood blinds are, or if they ever really existed! Are we Faux Christians or the real thing? Isn’t it time totell it like it is, like it really is, so the searching world can know the truth?

Today I’m calling us, as a church, to stop playing games with our beliefs, cease our compromises with the world system and its pagan culture of delusion, deception and lies. Let’s simply, and authentically, “tell it like it is”, “speaking / sharing the truth in love.” Are we trusting and brave enough to move forward in TRUTH? Just as I spoke about Sunday, (“That’s Too Much”) lose the calculator!

I’m asking the Lord to help me, and help us all, to “tell it like it is” as the need for truth becomes ever more apparent in our world.

LIFE

Acts 17:24-29 – “The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things; and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and exist (are, have our being), as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we also are His children.’”

Perhaps, in reality, one doesn’t actually see or fully understand things as they are; instead one most likely sees and understands them from the somewhat skewed perspective of either fallen or redeemed humanity. In actuality, sometimes sad to say, the way one views life (and in particular their own life) actually shapes / forms one’s own existence! At that crossroad, the way one defines “life” serves to determine one’s own destiny. Beliefs will influence how one invests their time, money, skills / talents, and even, as a believer in Christ Jesus and His Word, the intrinsic value of worship, fellowship, study, prayer, and relationships!

Individuals often outwardly express their beliefs through clothes, jewelry, cars, hairstyles, bumper stickers, social media connections, tattoos, sports / hobby interests, and social circles. These somewhat unspoken influences make an impact and bring about effects (positive or negative) in life much more than one may realize or even understand. Too often they actually serve to determine expectations, moral / ethical values, spirituality, relationships, goals, and of course priorities. If life is a party, the primary value in life will be having fun. If life is in itself a battle or a game, winning will be of highest importance! However, If life on earth is viewed as a pilgrim, and one is simply passing through, the Lord’s view, God’s divine perspective, about everything becomes essential!

The Scripture (above) declares, “He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things!” If life is from the Lord, (the Lord God formed man … and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. From Genesis 2:7-8) then the perhaps simplified, but absolutely and undeniably the best way to view life is from His perspective! If then, “In Him we live and move and have our existence (being),” what other view should be effectively applicable?

Is life a test? Is life something entrusted to humanity? Is life a race? Is life as we know it a temporary assignment?
